If you want the strongest bamboo that can stand up to the demands of the modern home or commercial space, then you should consider strand woven bamboo flooring. Strand woven bamboo flooring is ideal for both home and commercial use and is available in 4 colors and 2 product options from Mr. Bamboo. Here is a brief overview of strand woven bamboo flooring so that you can understand why it has become so popular.
How Is Strand Woven Bamboo Flooring Made?
Strand woven bamboo flooring is made by weaving together strands of bamboo. These strands are then bound together along with an environmentally safe adhesive using extreme pressure. The weaving process for strand woven bamboo flooring is important because bamboo is a grass, not wood. Because of this, the bamboo is very fibrous which means that the weaving process is needed in order to turn this softer material into something that is stronger.
This weaving process produces flooring that is much harder and denser than regular bamboo flooring. To complete the manufacturing process and to protect the flooring, we apply 6 coats of German Ceramic Sealer Finish that is water-based, solvent-free, non-off gassing and formaldehyde free. When the process is complete, Mr. Bamboo’s flooring offers a beautiful appearance and finish that makes strand woven bamboo flooring a good substitute for hardwood flooring.
How Durable Is Strand Woven Bamboo Flooring?
In lab tests that compared the hardness of more than 52 different types of hardwood flooring, Mr. Bamboo’s strand woven bamboo flooring in natural color ranked as the 4th hardest flooring on the Janka Hardness Test. The only types of flooring that are harder than strand woven bamboo flooring are just a few of the most exotic species of bamboo that are rapidly disappearing from the rain forest. This makes strand woven bamboo flooring the hardest type of flooring on the market that is also environmentally-friendly.
What Type of Bamboo Is Used for This Flooring?
For Mr. Bamboo strand woven bamboo flooring, we use the larger bamboo species, known as Moso bamboo, which can be harvested at about 5 years once it reaches full maturity. This type of bamboo is not the same as the bamboo species that is used as food for pandas.
Installation for strand woven bamboo flooring is similar to other floors. For our BamStrand® product, the installation is performed in the same fashion as other nail down floors. Our other product, BamLoc® is prefinished floating (self locking) floor.
