Bamboo, The Environmental Choice

Bamboo is the eco-friendly choice because it regenerates and reaches maturity in five to six years where it can grow to a height of 80 feet. Mr. Bamboo harvests mature bamboo at the height of its strength and performance capabilities. Although many characteristics of bamboo are similar to those of hardwoods, bamboo is not a wood. It is classified as a grass and is much denser, and therefore stronger, than hardwoods.

Unlike trees, bamboo takes much less time to grow and is environmentally friendly. There are hundreds of bamboo species which grow almost everywhere in the world. Mr. Bamboo harvests the larger bamboo species called "Moso" in an area where it grows and regenerates naturally. This species, used for flooring, furniture, doors, handrails and other products is not the same as the one that serves as a food supply for pandas, as it is too large for consumption.

By nature, bamboo is hard and durable. It is a very stable material, because it absorbs less moisture and does not shrink or swell as much as most other hardwood materials.

Bamboo Facts

  • Bamboo is much harder than red oak and hard maple. See hardwood janka ball hardness comparison chart.

  • Bamboo has a higher density of fiber and absorbs less moisture.
  • Bamboo is much denser, stronger and wears better than most hardwood.
